Ugly Mus-tard debut

Dallas four-piece Ugly Mus-tard - E. Trent (guitar/keyboards), M. Daane (bass), K. Barker (vocals) and F. Rush (percussion) - will celebrate the release of their eponymous full-length debut this Saturday, May 20, at Trees. The 10-song outing arrives via Los Angeles' Real Records, who lured UM away from Modern Atlantic Records. Despite having a venue for the disc's release, UM decided to forgo the "professional" studio experience, opting instead to record at Daane's home studio. The end result is far from what one would expect from a typical home-studio, lo-fi affair.

"It's amazing how 15 tracks on half inch tape stood up so well versus putting these guys in a 48-digital-track professional studio," says Scott Strader, chief executive officer of Real Records. "It really proves to us their talent as producers and engineers."

The disc's first single, "High," debuted on Los Angeles' KLOS in April and is currently in regular rotation; by the first of May, UM's "High" began popping up on numerous playlists ("High" has received airplay on KEGL and KNON). Meanwhile, Real Records is trying to put together UM's first national tour by midsummer.
